JOB SUMMARY: The Senior Cost Accountant performs various cost accounting reporting functions for the accounting department. In this capacity, the employee interacts with the other National Accounting and Purchasing Administration personnel, as well as division personnel to ensure the integrity of the accounting information. Additionally, this position will be proficient in the General Ledger Accountant functions. Finally, the employee will understand the implications of non-lot level accounting and work to resolve non-lot staging issues in a timely manner.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Accounting analyses: - Schedule 35 and Variable contribution closed home analysis
- Variable contribution backlog analysis
- Cost to complete analysis for all inventory
- Property tax analysis and accrual
- Capitalized interest analysis and accrual
- Account reconciliation preparation and analysis
- IT exception reports review and analysis
- Prepare gain/loss analysis for land sales
Budget Reviews: - Review offsite development budgets (Schedule 14) and applicable budget revisions
- Review model upgrade budgets (Schedule 17) and applicable budget revisions
Review & Prepare Financial Statement Schedules: - Inventory (Schedule 11B, D)
- Land purchases (Schedule 18)
- Other inventory (Schedule 20)
- Capitalized interest (Schedule 32)
Miscellaneous: - Assist with Accounting Manager/Assistant Controller duties, as directed
- Assist in the preparation of audit support requests
- Training of General Ledger Accountants as necessary
- First review of general ledger accountant work product, as directed
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education/Certifications/Licenses - High School Education required
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
- Masters/MBA and or CPA are a plus
Experience - Minimum 2+ years full-cycle accounting experience
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities - Must possess good analytical and problem solving skills
- Strong experience in reading, analyzing and reconciling financial reports
- Advanced Excel skills including lookups and pivot tables for analysis
- Proficient in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
- Comfortable with using ERP applications for importing data to derive solutions, analysis and reporting
- Strong attention to details, performs self-review of work, updates job knowledge, self-motivated to learn and
- participate in projects
- Ability to effectively communicate with NAPA and division personnel
- Must be able to manage multiple tasks to ensure deadlines are met, high level of organization required
- Must have strong mathematical and statistical aptitude
- Must possess the skills and abilities to offer support to management as needed or requested
- Ability to stay organized and manages priorities in an efficient manner
- Self-motivated and able to work in a collectively responsible team environment
Work Requirements - May be required to work overtime as necessary at month-end and quarter/fiscal quarter end
- Must conduct business in a professional and ethical manner to potential buyers, external business
- associates and coworkers to reinforce goodwill and profitability for the company
